What is an electronic visa to Turkey?
In 2013, the Turkish authorities introduced Turkey e-Visa, which is an online alternative to a regular visa. If you are a national of one of the e-Visa eligible countries, you no longer need to bother yourself with Embassy visits. Nowadays, all formalities can be handled from the comfort of your home using any Internet-connected electronic device.

Depending on your nationality, you may enter Turkey either once or a few times. There are two types of Turkey e-Visa:
- a single-entry visa for a 30-day stay
- a multiple-entry visa for a 90-day stay
Both of the available types can be used to enter Turkey for either tourism or business purposes. Every other travel purpose, such as employment, will require a regular visa, obtainable only at the Turkish Embassy.

- Filling out the online form: provide the required details like name, surname, nationality, and date of birth; some basic passport data, travel-related information, and the email address.
- Double-checking your data: carefully go through all the entered details and make sure there are no mistakes, typos, etc.
- Uploading necessary documents: applicants from the majority of the countries will need to attach some supporting documents, which may be different depending on their nationality.
- Covering the processing fee: use any valid method of online payment and pay the service fee.
And actually, that's all! Once your payment is successfully processed, you will soon receive an email containing the confirmation number. Use it to check the progress of your e-Visa application. Turkey e-Visa requirements
Necessary documents
One obligatory document for all applicants, no matter the nationality, is a valid passport. Moreover, the passport cannot expire for at least 6 months from the date when you plan to enter Turkey.
Citizens of certain countries will also need to upload a few additional documents. These may differ depending on the nationality. For example, you may be asked to attach:
- a return ticket
- a round trip booked with one of the Turkish airlines
- valid visa/residence permit from one of the Schengen Area countries
- hotel booking proof

Other requirements for the Turkey e-Visa application
Apart from the required documents, all applicants need to meet a few standard technical requirements, which go as follows:
- valid means of online payment, e.g., credit/debit card, PayPal
- active email address
- Internet-accessed working electronic device
Turkey e-Visa important information
- e-Visa Turkey is issued for 180 days (6 months), while the validity period starts from the date of issue
- The Turkey e-Visa application must be submitted at least 3 business days in advance to receive the approval on time
- Every applicant needs to print out the electronic visa and show its copy upon crossing the border
- Children are not exempt from the requirement to hold a valid Turkey visa. The application on their behalf, however, must be submitted by their parents or legal guardians
- If you plan only to make a transit stop in Turkey when heading to another destination, you don't need to apply for a Turkey visa. Remeber that you cannot leave the transit zone at the airport
- You shouldn't overstay your Turkey visa since it may result in legal consequences, including fines or even deportation or a ban on future travels
- Turkey e-Visa cannot be extended. You should come back to your home country before its expiration and obtain a new visa to come back to Turkey
